Biography

Alannah is one of Australia’s most talented and experienced harpists. She began the instrument at the age of eight and three years later was awarded a scholarship to attend the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, studying with Julie Raines. Alannah graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Music Performance in 2001.

In 2002 Alannah undertook postgraduate study at the Royal Academy of Music, London, winning the RAM Harp Prize and being presented the Major Award from the Australian Music Foundation by HRH Prince Charles.

In 2010, Alannah returned to London for three months to undertake further advanced study with the generous assistance of the Australia Council.

Alannah has performed regularly as Principal Harp with most of Australia’s major orchestras, including the Melbourne, Tasmanian, and West Australian Symphony Orchestras, Orchestra Victoria, the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, Australian Pops Orchestra, the Australian Youth Orchestra, Victorian Opera and the Melbourne Ring Orchestra.

Alannah is the resident harpist for Channel Nine’s “Carols by Candlelight”, live from Melbourne every Christmas Eve. Other broadcast credits include appearances on “In Melbourne Tonight”, “It Takes Two” and “Hey, Hey, It’s Saturday!”, and solo and duo recorded recitals for ABC Classic FM and 3MBS FM. Alannah can also be heard on many soundtracks and commercial recordings.

She has performed with many notable international artists including Anthony Warlow, David Campbell, Roberta Flack, Josh Grobin, Katherine Jenkins, Aled Jones, Sylvie Palladino and Guy Sebastian, but the highlight so far has been entertaining Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness Prince Philip during their 2011 visit to Government House in Melbourne.

Alannah has just returned from a critically acclaimed tour of Europe with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, performing at various prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall, London and the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam.

Alannah appears regularly in concerts and recitals as a soloist and chamber musician. She also enjoys performing a wide variety of musical genres at weddings and other special events and delights in bringing her music to as many people as possible.
